Augusta Plantation May 3, 2008
Our Aiken Driving Club lucked out once again
on
Many participants took the 2 ½ mile trail and several took the 7 mile trail. This writer wanted to see what I had missed the year before and elected to take the longer route. With our ace photographer, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. As I had been told, the length was a good bit sandy, but if your horse or pony was fit, it was delightful. Tiring yes, but delightful!
To my estimation, there were at least 11 participants. Everyone enjoyed the lovely weather, the venue and socializing.
The beverages and paper products were provided by the club as always. Our drivers did not go hungry. Everyone brought wonderful dishes. There was pasta salad, pea salad, broccoli and coleslaw salad, fresh vegetables and dip, fresh strawberries, cut up fruit, cakes, pies, cheeses and crackers. We cannot forget the tomato pies and the fried chicken.
Augusta Plantation had some good pluses. Our location included a covered pavilion with picnic tables, a bathroom and even running water with a hose to wash down our horses. Thousands of acres, a beautiful day, camaraderie. What else could you ask for on such a beautiful May day
